'Berlin in the Cold War and Spying in Cold War East Germany'

This was a double presentation which prepared officers and civilian staff for a 'Staff Ride' visit to Berlin and to the areas involved in the Battle of Berlin in April and May 1945.

The first talk covered the final days and immediate aftermath of the war, the occupation regime, the operational challenges that faced the Allied garrisons and the intelligence opportunities offered by patrolling in East Berlin and from the British Military Train.

The second talk focused on the extraordinary intelligence and liaison activities of BRIXMIS, the British military liaison mission to the Soviet Army, and its French and US equivalents on the territory of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany).
